I’m writing this in the glow of the lights from the Christmas tree, in awe of the way these tiny, sparkly lights can make everything look magical.
I’m also in awe of the fact that Christmas is ONE week from today. How is it almost here? (I also realize I sound like a broken record with my incredulity at how fast time moves)
Each season, I usually get so caught up in the hustle and bustle that I forget to take a moment to savor all the things that make this time so special. This year, I told myself I wouldn’t do that – I would be more present and enjoy the beauty around me.
I can’t say I haven’t felt overwhelmed some days by the to-do list, but I also think I’ve been more balanced this year.
So, I wanted to share this with you – whether you’re feeling overwhelmed and stressed to the max about all that needs done, or you’ve completed your shopping and wrapping and baking and are just ready to roll, or perhaps you’re in the middle (like me) – here are some simple ways to celebrate this final week heading into Christmas.
After all, our families and friends may not remember the gift we gave, or how our house was decorated, but they’ll remember the memories we made.
- Make Christmas music the soundtrack to your daily life for the next few days.
- Sip hot chocolate as you drive around as a family to look at Christmas lights.
- Wear a pair of holiday pajamas.
- Watch a Christmas movie together as a family.
- Bake a favorite cookie recipe and share some with the neighbors.
- Get up early and enjoy a cup of coffee by the Christmas tree before everyone else wakes up.
- Send a friend or family member a handwritten Christmas card.
- Help kids make paper snowflakes to hang around the house.
- Decorate a gingerbread house.
- FaceTime a family member or friend who lives far away.
- Donate an item to a local toy drive.
- Take a walk around the neighborhood to look at all the decorations.
- Make Christmas breakfast.
I don’t know that I’ll be able to do all of the things on this list, but a lot of these items are simple, fun things I enjoy doing with my family this time of year. If we can cross off a handful over the next seven days, I’ll be grateful.
Wishing you much joy and peace!
