I noticed something this year, and it’s not the way daylight fades earlier to darkness, or how it suddenly feels so bitterly cold. It’s not even how we’ve already seen snowflakes dancing down to earth, falling from the sky.

This year, it seems we celebrated Halloween and skipped right to Christmas. The Black Friday deals started at the beginning of November, and the decorations hit storefronts and store shelves the day the calendar flipped.

Here come the holidays
Now, don’t get me wrong here – I LOVE Christmas and everything the season brings – but I feel that Thanksgiving is skipped over. In our haste to get on top of the holiday hustle and bustle, we forget to stop and savor Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving can be such a beautiful holiday – gathering around the table with friends and family to share a delicious meal and counting our blessings of the year gone by. I love the smells that fill the house, too, as the turkey roasts and the sides are prepared. Add in the chorus of voices in conversation and the sound of laughter, and this holiday really can’t be better.

(Remember, as you’re planning your menu and making your grocery list, don’t forget to add in a stop at Ashley’s. We’ve got freshly baked rolls that are great for your Thanksgiving dinner and perfect for leftover turkey sandwiches. We also have pies, cakes and cookies for that sweet treat after the meal.)

Even if I’m not quite ready to start decking the halls just yet, I know the holidays are here! And now is the perfect time to start making those lists and planning ahead.

Shop small, shop local
Black Friday deals might be going on already, but Small Business Saturday hasn’t hit yet. This Saturday, swing by the shops at Oakwood and shop local!

When you shop small, you can find fun, unique gifts for those special people on your list. Your shopping experience is often more personalized – there’s actually someone there to help answer any questions, offer suggestions or even wrap your purchase.

When you shop locally, you’re supporting men and women that live and work in the community, and you’re helping to support the businesses of your town.

Here at Ashley’s Pastries, we’re offering some special deals on Small Business Saturday, too. It’s our way of saying thank you for your support, but it’s also a great way to help you for the holidays. A win-win!

Our gift certificates make a great gift for anyone on your list. Gift certificates always fit, never expire, and the recipient can come in and use them to pick their favorite treat. On Small Business Saturday, with any gift certificate purchase, we’ll increase the value by $5. So, if you buy $10 in gift certificates, it will actually be valued at $15.

Our Bakery Bucks make the perfect stocking stuffer, a filler for those shoes for St. Nick, or that perfect add-on when you need something extra to tuck into a gift bag or basket. Here’s a special promotion for you – purchase $10 in Bakery Bucks and receive 2 FREE!

Tis the season
As we look ahead to this week of Thanksgiving, and the final weeks of the year, we can’t help but be thankful for all of you, and this opportunity to help you celebrate life’s special moments deliciously. We are thankful for your support of our business and our dream, and we look forward to helping you make the holidays wonderful this year.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
