Happy New YearI know we say it often, but I can’t believe the end of the year is days away. It just doesn’t seem possible that it’s time to bid farewell to 2018 and welcome a new year. These 12 months went by incredibly quickly.

As December draws to a close, it offers a chance for reflection on the past year and a chance to look ahead to the new one. What things went well in 2018? What do we want to do differently? What do we hope to accomplish in 2019? What are the goals for us as a business? As individuals?

These are just a few of the questions we are asking as we wind down and gear up for the new year. But we can’t look ahead without glancing back.

Achievements for 2018
There is much to celebrate at Ashley’s Pastries this year. Here are a few of the highlights.

Ashley’s Pastries was the Best Bakery Winner by Dayton Magazine. Thank you to everyone who picked us!

President Kettering Moraine with the Oakwood Chamber of Commerce, being named Board Member of the Year… excited to be giving back to our community.

We are pleased to continue our involvement with University of Dayton’s Lifelong Learning Series. We are also an Entrepreneurial Advisor. It’s a rewarding experience to be able to work with such bright, promising students.

We love the partnership we have with Oakwood Schools and their special education program.

Thanks to feedback from our customers, this year we expanded our gluten free product offerings. We appreciate your thoughts and input and love being able to meet your needs.

Our family grew this year as well, when we welcomed our newest granddaughter, Kaylee Anne. Kaylee is such a happy, smiley baby and she brings us such joy when we can spend time with her. Family is why we do all of this!

Despite long hours, I LOVE what I do each day and am honored that our loyal and amazing customers allow us to be part of life’s special moments and celebrations. We love being able to help you celebrate life deliciously! We hope Ashley’s will have a place at your table for years to come.

Goals for 2019
While it was a good year, we’re also looking ahead and making plans for 2019.

We’re planning to introduce a new coffee cake line. What flavors would you like to see? Please share any ideas.

We’d also like to enhance our coffee offerings. What’s better with your favorite breakfast pastry or an afternoon cookie treat than a cup of hot coffee?

We want to continue to develop our gluten free and dietary bakery product offerings. Look for more products this year.

We want to partner with local farmers to provide fresh, local fruits and vegetables to our ingredients. It’s important to us to support local, just as you all support us, so we love the idea of being able to use local, fresh ingredients in our baked goods.

Personally, I’d like some time to unplug and recharge. Life can be so hectic with so many demands and to-dos. I’d like to take some time to enjoy some quiet stillness and reflect and recharge.

I want to be present and really appreciate life, while accepting that life’s challenges enable us to see more of ourselves than we could ever imagine.

I’d like to read more. What suggestions do you have that I should look into?

I will continue to be thankful for the opportunities that owning and operating a small business provide for my family. I will continue to be thankful for the support of all of you!

So, thank you for a great 2018. Here’s wishing all of you a happy, healthy 2019!
