I don’t know about you, but I often find myself flipping through magazines and landing on pages with perfectly photographed food, complete with recipes that I always want to try, especially when it comes to baked goods. I dog-ear the pages, but when I go back to make them and quickly scan the ingredient list, I realize that I don’t have everything I need.
While it’s easy to pick up an unusual item once in awhile, it’s certainly nice to know I have a stocked pantry.
Whether you’re a seasoned baker or a beginner, there are certain items you want to make sure you always have on hand. Check your pantry and if you’re empty or missing any of these supplies, jot them on your list to pick up on your next grocery run. That way you’ve got what you need if the urge strikes to whip up a dozen cookies or a batch of brownies.
Here’s what we recommend as pantry staples for baking:
- Vegetable oil
- Salt & pepper
- Kosher salt
- All purpose flour
- Sugar – granulated and powder
- Evaporated milk
- Pastry flour
- Chocolate chips
- Baking soda
- Baking powder
- Cocoa powder
- Brown sugar
- Peanut butter
And make sure you’ve always got these in the fridge:
