5 Touchdown Dessert Ideas
With the Super Bowl just around the corner, it’s time to start planning your game day menu. Since most of your guests will want to eat while watching the game (and commercials, of course), make sure to have plenty of finger foods on hand. You may even want to set up a few food stations around your home so everyone can munch away without losing sight of the big game. You’ll want to have plenty of savory appetizers and salty snacks for your guests to enjoy, but don’t forget to throw in a few sweet desserts as well. Here are a few fun and simple ideas to help keep you out of the kitchen and enjoying the game!
1. Brownie Footballs
This idea is super easy. Make your favorite brownie recipe (or grab a box mix!) and use a football shaped cookie cutter to cut out football shapes. Want to go a step further? Pipe some simple white icing on the top for the laces. Use a Ziplock baggie, fill with icing or melted white chocolate, and simply snip a small hole in one corner for easing piping. Chocolate lovers and football fans alike will enjoy these yummy treats!
2. Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Everyone loves these! Grab a pint of strawberries from your local supermarket, wash them, and set them out to dry. You’ll want to make sure they are nice and dry before attempting to dip them. Melt a bag of chocolate chips in the microwave. A good rule of thumb is to heat them 30 seconds at a time, stirring intermittently. This will prevent your chocolate from burning. Once the chocolate is nice and smooth, use a toothpick to dip your strawberries about 2/3 of the way into the chocolate. Lay them out on wax paper to harden. To make these especially appropriate for game day, use white icing to pipe on the football laces. Your guests will be impressed, and your tray will be empty before you know it.
3. Turf Covered Cupcakes
Cupcakes not only make a good dessert, but they make a great centerpiece for your table as well. Not too sure of your decorating skills, why not let football themed cupcake liners jazz up your cupcakes? They’re fun, festive and EASY! Then use green icing or green sprinkles to create turf grass and place a chocolate or candy football on top! If you have a little extra time on your hands, make some goal post toppers yourself. Here’s how:
Following the instructions on a package of Candy Melts, melt about one cup of white or yellowcandies. Pour the melted candy into a Ziploc bag, and cut off one of the corners. Pipe the goalposts onto wax paper, parchment paper or foil. You’ll want to make sure to make them extra tall since you will be sticking them down into the cupcake. Inevitably, some of these will break, so make a few extra! Now place them in the refrigerator while you continue prepping for your party. Just before guests arrive, take them out of the fridge, peel them off the paper, and stick them in the cupcakes. Now THAT is a winning idea!
4. Team Colored M&M Cookies
Show your team spirit by throwing some colored M&Ms into your chocolate chip or sugar cookie dough. If you hurry, you can order candies in the exact colors of your favorite team. Another simple yet festive idea!
