Can it really be fall without pumpkins? They might be the universal sign of the season. For us here at Ashley’s Pastries, and for a lot of you, we can’t wait for fall and all the pumpkin treats that come with it. Thankfully, pumpkins are quite healthy for us – they contain potassium and Vitamin A – and are quite delicious when used to make yummy treats.
Did you know that the largest pumpkin pie ever made weighed more than 350 pounds and was over five feet in diameter? According to the website The Pumpkin Patch, to make this enormous pie it took 80 pounds of cooked pumpkin, 36 pounds of sugar, 12 dozen eggs and took six hours to bake!
While we don’t make pies that big, we certainly bake plenty of pumpkin pies every year. (If you want one for Thanksgiving, make sure you give us a call and put your order in early!) We also offer pumpkin cake donuts, pumpkin cream cheese iced cookies, pumpkin rolls and pumpkin raisin bread loaf. Have you tried any or all of these? If not, stop in to see us and pick up a tasty treat. We promise your tastebuds will thank you.
In addition to yummy pumpkin treats, we’ve got pumpkin on the brain right now. This is the perfect time to enjoy a trip to the pumpkin patch or gather inspiration for carving your pumpkin this year. If you’re looking for something beyond a basic jack-o-lantern, check out these 31 fun ideas from Good Housekeeping. Have you ever thought of using a pumpkin as a flower vase? What about using a power drill to make a polka-dot pumpkin? Perhaps this is the year to get creative when you start carving.
If you have little ones at home, this is the perfect season for trying out some fun pumpkin crafts. There are lots of easy activities for little hands using materials you probably already have at home (think paper plates and paper towel rolls). We especially like the idea of Jack-o-Lantern Luminaries from the Love and Marriage blog or the Button and Ribbon Pumpkins from Toddler Approved.
It’s easy to see why we love pumpkin so much. From tasty treats to festive decorations to kids crafts, there’s something for everyone to love about pumpkins this season.
